The Passage

John 18:1-11,ESV

II. The Place (vs.1-2)

II. The People (vs.2-10)

III. The Plan (vs.11)

Talk it Over

Ice Breaker: Share about a time when you experienced a transformation or redemption in a place of pain or difficulty in your life.

1. Take a minute to review the passage John 18:1-11, ESV and the outline. What stood out to you and why?

2. Reflect on the significance of the various gardens mentioned in the sermon (Garden of Eden, Gethsemane, Garden Tomb, Future Garden City). How do these locations represent themes of sin, redemption, and restoration? (Genesis 2:8-9, John 18:1, John 19:41/John 20:15, Revelation 22:1-5).

3. Discuss examples from your own life or from the sermon where God has redeemed places of pain or brokenness. How did God work in those situations to bring about healing and transformation? (Psalm 23:3, Romans 8:28)

4. In what ways can our church or community serve as a place of redemption and restoration for individuals experiencing pain or brokenness? How can we actively create environments where people feel welcomed and supported? (Galatians 6:2, James 5:16)

5. Explore the characteristics of a "Judas" as outlined in the sermon. Have you ever encountered someone with similar traits in your life? How did you handle the situation? (Luke 22:47-48, Proverbs 27:6)

6. Read John 13:21-30 and discuss the significance of Jesus exposing Judas' betrayal. How can we discern and address betrayal or deception in our own relationships and communities?

7. In John 18:7-9, we witness Jesus protecting his disciples during his arrest. How does understanding that Jesus protects us spiritually give us hope? Let's take a moment to reflect on some Bible verses from the Gospel of John that highlight Jesus' promise regarding eternal security, such as John 10:27-30 and John 11:25-26. How do these passages deepen our confidence in Jesus' protective care for us?

8. Reflect on Peter's impulsive actions in John 18:10-11. Have you ever acted impulsively in a way that caused harm or conflict? How can we learn from Peter's example and exercise wisdom and self-control in difficult situations? (Proverbs 29:11, James 1:19-20)

9. Explore the concept of God's plan versus man's plan, as discussed in the sermon. How have you seen God's plans prevail over human intentions in your own life or in biblical narratives? (Proverbs 19:21, Isaiah 55:8-9)

*Share prayer requests within the group for people you hope to get connected to Jesus and his church this Easter season!

*Take some time to pray for those names mentioned and pray for our New Church Plant in Buckeye as well!
