Talk It Out

Icebreaker: What was one career or future goal that you had that did not or is currently not happening in your life? Why so?

  1. The Human/Heart Condition | Genesis 3:1-8

Adam and Eve committed an act of disobedience. Our speaker, Trent, indicated that the sinful act was committed before eating the forbidden fruit.

What sinful behavior did Adam and Eve commit prior to eating the forbidden fruit?  (Genesis 3:5-6)

Fear can often allow us to believe falsely about ourselves. God desires to create a new heart in us, but we act out in fear, not trusting God to meet our needs. This is what Adam/Eve did. (Matthew 12:33-37; John 3:17)

  1. Compassion of Christ | John 13:1-5; John: 13:12-17

Feet Washing-Ancient Civilization: This was a form of hospitality when a visitor would enter a home, especially when sandals were the normal type of footwear. Foot washing was usually done by household servants.

What would you say to Jesus if he came to your home to wash your feet?

What type of gesture is Jesus presenting when washing the disciples' feet?

How does this act by Jesus change or confirm your understanding of who Christ is in your life?

  1. Our identity in Christ | 1 Peter 2:9-10; Romans 8:37

Our speaker, Trent, spoke of how internal conflicts often result in external conflict. What are your thoughts regarding this?

These verses in 1 Peter 2:9- 10 and Romans identify believers differently than how we often think of ourselves. Why so?

We were encouraged to:

Confess - admit our truth about ourselves

Repent - realize that God has given you a new name and accept it/accept  Christ forgiveness

Baptize - water baptism/living out the Christian life (Matthew 3:11)
