Prophecy? It’s All About Jesus!

30

“For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness to Jesus.”

Revelation 19:10, NLT

In the very beginning of our Bible, we find a prophecy about Jesus. (Genesis 3:15)

The deliver will crush the head of the serpent. It’s a reference to the work of Christ overcoming the power of Satan. From the beginning to the end we find out it’s all about Jesus!  He is the obvious centerpiece of Christian theology. The Old Testament and New Testament are connected through Jesus. In the Old Testament, there are prophecies made about his 1st coming and in the New Testament, we see the fulfillment of those prophecies.  From his birth, his death, and his resurrection. The bible is woven together with prophecies, promises made, and promises kept!

PROPHETIC LITERATURE THAT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS

Here are seven great examples

  1. He is the Deliver that will crush the Serpent’s Head (Genesis 3:15)
  2. He Is the Passover Lamb (Exodus 12)
  3. He is the Wonderful Counselor and Mighty God (Isaiah 9:6)
  4. He is the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53:3)
  5. He is Ruler of the kings over all the earth (Revelation 1:5)
  6. He is the Alpha and Omega (Revelation 1:8; 22:13)
  7. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16)

Studying Bible prophecy is vital because it’s the very essence of Jesus. The more we understand the prophetic literature the more familiar we become with Christ. We learn more and more of his character, nature, and mission in this world.  While many of us have done well to study prophecy that relates to his first coming, we have one little to no work as it relates to the second coming. When in fact, there are scores of Biblical prophecies awaiting their fulfillment.

KNOWING THE FUTURE

Knowing the future can bring a sense of peace and ease about certain things in life. For example, I recently lost my wedding ring at the bottom of a nearby lake. I worked for weeks to find it. I got rectified as a diver, I gathered equipment, I went diving, I searched and searched. I enlisted the help of some professionals as well. We all went in, with metal detectors and all. No ring. That evening when I loaded the scuba tank. Knowing the scriptures, I said, well Lord. If I can’t find it before you return, how about you help me find it in the Millennial Kingdom on earth. We will have 1,000 years and I do want to find that ring.  With a laugh I sensed the LORD’s pleasure and a peace come over me, and a sense of Joy that I serve a good and great God that told me what to expect in the years ahead. I know and believe me it’s good!
