DAY #1: STEP BY STEP

…For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.

 Walk as children of light.

Ephesians 5:8, ESV

The Apostle Paul is making a great emphasis on who we are in Christ as believers. Thus far in his letter to the church in Ephesus, he calls the believers “saints”; later he refers to them as “adopted children by God”, “God’s workmanship”, and today he refers to believers as “Light in the Lord.” Light here refers to our character and conduct as a believer. As Christians, we possess a light that people will take notice of. This light is testimony to the world.  Jesus was clear when he said, “You are Light of the world” (Matthew 5:14).

Even if we don’t feel like it, that is what we are: we are Children of light, and we reflect the light of God as we go about our lives. Every Christian has a unique role to play in the lives of others; as singles, married couples, parents, and coworkers, we all have a unique influence.

As the Apostle Peter said, But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”(1 Peter 2:9)

God calls us out of the shadows, and into his light. The church more than ever has a role to play, because the world is watching. This gives us a tremendous sense of purpose. In the midst of our changing world, don’t ever forget you have a purpose, and God has a plan to use you. Even when you don’t see all the details, He’s got it figured out. Like a child who doesn’t understand all the plans his or her parents have, it’s just not possible all the time. Children must trust their parents, just as we must trust God. Let’s start with today. Trust God and tell him you are willing to walk step by step as a Child of God’s light.
