40 Days with Jesus - Part 1: His Birth, My Birth
Topic: Birth Scripture: Matthew 2:1–2:12, John 3:3–3:7, 2 Corinthians 5:17
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind. Romans 12:2
40 days is spiritually significant in the Bible. There are repeated examples of God using 40 days to teach, and transform. God wants to transform your heart and mind by smoothing out your rough edges and transforming your mind.
Jesus birth fulfilled several Old Testament prophecies. He was called a king, and when the wise men came seeking the messiah, Herod was so threatened he commanded that all males under the age of 2 years be executed. The wise men followed a star to Bethlehem, to Jesus. It was this shining manifestation of the glory of God that led the wise men to the messiah who was predicted in the book of Numbers. Jesus was born of a virgin. This was predicted by Isaiah. It was not only a human birth, but a supernatural birth. Jesus was worthy of a king’s worship. The wise men worshipped Him and gave Him royal and extravagant gifts worthy of a king.
We can share in the birth of Christ in natural birth and spiritual birth that is supernatural. Jesus is not just any king. He is the King of Heaven and earth. You cannot be part of the kingdom of God unless you are born again. So, what is the Kingdom of God? It is seeing God’s rule and reign as it is in heaven here on earth. We cannot get a glimpse of it without being born again. What does it mean to be born again? Without a relationship with Jesus we are empty inside, but when we surrender to Jesus, God changes our desires. We no longer desire to live for ourselves, but for Christ. The old self must die to allow Jesus to build a new life within us. We need to pray for God to change our lives and desires. Spiritual birth is supernatural. “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matt 10:25. We need to completely surrender to Jesus and be transformed by Him. We will become a new person inside. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12.
Jesus birth was predicted several placed in the Old Testament. Numbers 24 predicts a Star coming out of Jacob. Isaiah predicts that a virgin will give birth to the messiah. This birth was not just natural, but also supernatural. While Jesus was fully human, He was also fully God. He allows us to be able to have a relationship with God. Without this we are empty, but if we surrender to God we can be born again and become new in Christ. When we surrender to Jesus, He changes our desires and we no longer desire to live for ourselves, but for Christ. By dying to our old self, we can allow Jesus to build a new life within us.
