Think Before You Post
DAY 5 – THINK BEFORE YOU POST
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works...
Hebrews 10:24, ESV
In a day of social media society, it’s easy to stir one another up, not necessarily for love and good deeds, but division and dissension. More and more people are far more comfortable to say things online than in person. As a result, we misinterpret and say things without thinking about the implications or impacts of our words. Words matter. We can either build or break with our words. The Bible consistently communicates the idea that out of the heart, the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34; Proverbs 4:23; Proverbs 10:11; Psalm 14:1).
We as Christians are called to think before we act. The following acronym may be helpful for you to “THINK” before you post.
“THINK” BEFORE YOU POST
T – Is it True? Is what you want to post about really true? Have you done the research to ensure it’s true?
H – Is it Helpful? Is what you are posting about truly helpful? Have you considered how this may be helpful? Is your post written in such a way that others would perceive it as helpful?
I – Is it Inspiring? Does inspire others to do good? Is it something that you are proud of? Is it something that would inspire others to do something as well?
N – Is it Necessary? Is it needed to be said, in light of the other factors and the situation? Is there an urgency that needs to be communicated, or could it wait?
K – Is it Kind? Kindness is not cool in today’s culture, yet kindness is a mark of Christian maturity. It’s an ethical code for what it means to be Christian.
ARE YOU STIRRING ONE ANOTHER UP?
As Christians we are called to help stir one another up with love and good deeds. To “consider” means to think carefully about something, typically before making a decision. Do you think before you post? Do you think how to help stir one another up for love and good deeds or are you just stirring one another up creating division and dissension? Think before you post.
