Mexico Missions- A life changing experience!
Recently we talked with Sefora, our new missions coordinator, about her experience during the spring 2019 Mexico Trip. Read along as she shares her story:
How long have you been going to North Valley Community Church?
About a year and a half.
What made you decide to go on the Mexico Mission Trip?
My father was a missionary and basically shared his last dime with the poor. I learned from him that giving and sharing not only financially but of yourself to serve and support those in need is something that God calls all of us to do.
Was this your family's first mission trip?
I have been on a few other mission trips. However, this was the first time that I was able to go on a trip with such a big group as with NVCC. I feel like it was really special being able to participate with a wide variety of people. From young kids to retired people. It was very neat to see families serve God together.
What did God teach you or what did you experience on this trip?
One thing God taught me was to be more thankful. Seeing how happy others can be with what little they have. This taught me to have more gratitude for the many blessings I already have.
What surprised you about the culture and people?
I learned that the people of Mexico really value family. It was amazing to see how the family supported each other and valued the time they had together.
What was the hardest part of the trip?
It was amazing how quickly I was able to build friendships with people I had just met. The hardest part of the trip was leaving behind the friends I just made.
What was your favorite part of the trip?
I really enjoyed being able to disconnect from the craziness and fast pace that we live in. Being able to take a break and serve others was just amazing.
What advice would you give to someone that is unsure about going on a mission trip?
If you’ve ever felt a calling for missions, give it a try! Serving in another country is a sure way to experience God in a whole new way.
If you are interested in participating in our next Mexico Missions Trip please plan to join us after 2nd service on November 3rd. We will be holding our first informational meeting. The meeting will take place in the main service area. You will be able to hear more stories and get the details about our next trip taking place March 19-22nd 2020!
Look forward to seeing you there!
