King Jesus Will Bring Peace and Prosperity

73

He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.

Isaiah 2:4, ESV

In September 2020, the President of the United States and Israel along with the President of the United Arab Nations signed an agreement for peace and prosperity through mutual cooperation and agreements. While this is a historic moment and a significant step forward in God’s plans and purposes for Israel, it’s only a foreshadowing of the coming peace that will come upon this world in the time of the millennial kingdom that will come at Jesus Second Coming.

If you watch the news, you might not think that peace actually really exists. Today there are between 192-197 countries in our world, depending on who you ask! Each one of these nations has it’s president or leader in power. With all these different leaders around the world, there is seldom a time when there is not some war or threat of war occurring.

It seems we continually see in the news Russia, Turkey, Iran, or North Korea making threats to blow someone off the face of the earth with their nuclear weapons or missiles!

The Bible tells us that there will be a day when there are no more wars on our earth. There will be no more presidents or superpowers. There will not be numerous forms of government. No democracy. No republic. There will only be a theocracy. A government ruled by God himself. Jesus will sit on the throne given to him through the line of King David.  Just as predicted… “And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’ (2 Samuel 7:16)

There is a promise that the angel Gabriel quoted to Mary about the miracle child in Luke’s Gospel as well. That’s worth noting… “ He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom, there will be no end.”  (Luke 1:32–33).

The kingdom will not simply rule over heaven but over all the earth too!  The prophet Isaiah “He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples;  and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation,  neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4)

PEACE ON EARTH

When the Angel announced the birth of Christ in saying this was good news of great joy for all people (Luke 2:10) He was not referring only to that group of shepherds or simply for that generation but for all generations. As well the Angels announced in the choir of Angels that Jesus would bring peace on the earth saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (Luke 2:14) This peace is only fully realized in the Second Coming of Christ, not his first coming. All throughout the scriptures, there is a promise of peace. No more wars. No more fighting in our streets, no more riots, or innocent people being killed.

Note what one scholar said…

War will be utterly unknown during the earthly reign of Christ. Not a single armament plant will be operating. Not a soldier or sailor will be in uniform.  No military camps will exist not one cent will be spent on a military budget. Even wild animals will become dear friends, as it was imagined such an age in which all the kingdoms of this world and even the animal kingdom will be in perfect peace.[1]

God’s word affirms a time of peace. It will be a sigh of relief after the tribulation. The world will enter into a time 1,000 years of abundance, peace, and prosperity. (Psalm 72:7) No more nations will aim their nuclear missiles at one another. There will be no more wars, no need for a militia, no soldiers, no police, no prisons, no jails, the people of the world will have peace.  (Micah  4: 2-3)

This millennial kingdom will not only be characterized by the time of peace, but it will be characterized by a time of great prosperity. There will be no welfare, there will be no poor or middle-class, there will be no Obama care, there will only be God’s care.

PROSPERITY FOR ALL

The Bible promises a time in the future where the whole world will be economically healthy and whole. Listen to the Lord’s promises.

  • I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing, and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing. 27 And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 34:26–27)
  • I will summon the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine upon you. 30I will make the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field abundant, that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations. (Ezekiel 36:29–30).

In conclusion, we see that this Millennial Kingdom is characterized by a time of peace and prosperity. The Prophet Amos summarized these two ideas well in saying…

“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when the plowman shall overtake the reaper.. the mountains shall drip sweet wine,  and all the hills shall flow with it. 14I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel,  and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,  and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit. 15 I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them,” says the Lord your God. (9:13–15).

APPLY

In light of God’s promise for peace and prosperity. Find comfort that things are not as they should be nor as they will always be. This ought to give you hope. Take a moment and give thanks to God for a great future. Ask him to help you experience his peace right here and now and thank him for the peace to come in His coming kingdom.
