Day 2 – Love and Respect Reveals Three Things

However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Ephesians 5:33

In looking at this text, there are three key observations that are important to make in the marriage relationships.

1. Reveals one’s weakness. Men aren’t great at loving and women aren’t great at respect, otherwise, the Apostle Paul wouldn’t command it to them respectively.

2. Reveals one another’s needs. God made the husband to run on respect of his wife. He made the wife to run on love from her husband.

3. Reveals power to bring about change. A loving husband can change his spouse by the way he loves her just as Christ sanctifies the church, his bride, with his loving leadership (Ephesians 5:26). Additionally, the wife is commanded in I Peter 3:1-2 that if she acts respectfully, she may be able to win over her unbelieving husband to the faith! The point is that love and respect change people.
